Working with local arts organisations, Iain has been involved as a facilitator on many projects involving schools and youth groups, from short half day events to larger long term programmes. The common aim through all projects is to encourage people to express themselves through songwriting, and performing the songs. In many cases the result is recorded. In most cases Iain co-facilitates groups with Gary Miller. Further info on arts projects at TMG.
Here are some projects I have had the pleasure to work on.
Berwick welcomes the world
Commissioned by northumberland county council and TMG, the aim was to produce a song for berwick. Working with Gary Miller and children from each of the 7 local schools to produce the 7 verse song. The song was performed at the ‘Riding the Bounds’ Event in Berwick Market. A follow up recording is planned.
I wanna be free!
This song was the result of a 3 hour session with 5 teenagers at gilmerton children’s home in Edinburgh.
I explored and encouraged lyrical ideas that had relevance to what the group were experiencing in their lives at that time. We brought those ideas into one song and performed it there and then, with more than a little help from the staff!
World of dreams
A 6 hour session with 10 children aged 11 to 13 years. Facilitated by Iain Petrie and Gary Miller. The aim was to create a song about a fantasy world, and give the participants a chance to sing and play instruments on the recorded song.
